Businesses pressure Merkel ahead of the May 6 meeting

04 May, 16:53
(ANSA) - BERLIN, 04 MAG - Many schoolchildren, even in primary school, return to classes in Germany today, and museums and hairdressers reopen with an already full agenda in many cases. However, the focus remains on May 6, when the next meeting between the State and the Regions should allow further openings.

The food sector is ready to action, declaring heavy losses and fearing a wave of closures.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting, the economic associations are pressuring Angela Merkel, who has been urging caution in lifting the restrictive coronavirus measures.

According to data released by the Robert Koch Institut, the infections across the country rose to 163,175 (+679 compared to the day before) whereas the number of deaths was 6,692. The basic reproduction number dropped to 0.74. As always, the data reported by Hopkins University, which recorded 165,664 infections and 6,866 dead, is slightly higher. (ANSA).
