Coronavirus: 361.000+ cases in New Europe,14.868 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 01 GIU - A total of 361.179 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2658 day-on-day), of which 181482 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 31. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova, Poland, and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 25. Belarus is now registering more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy. Montenegro did not register any new case already in the past 25 days, according to the latest WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 14.868 (+71), out of which 8500 registered in Germany, 1253 in Romania, 1061 in Poland, 708 in Ukraine 668 in Austria, 524 in Hungary, 319 in Czechia, 294 in Moldova, 242 in Serbia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (181482, +286 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (41658, +894), Ukraine (23672, +468), Poland (23571, +416), Romania (19133, +151), Austria (16638, +44), Serbia (11381, +27), Czechia (9230, +34) and Moldova (8098, +202). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 44992 confirmed cases and 2225 deaths were registered as of May 31.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 4389 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3847 in Italy, followed by Moldova (3020) and Germany (2183), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (279 per million) and Greece (271 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Moldova has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (110), followed by Germany (102), Austria (75) and Romania (65), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 551 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 18 and May 25, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+22,0%), Moldova (+17.0%), Poland (+15.1%) and Ukraine (+14.1%). In North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Germany, Austria, Greece, Slovakia, Croatia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
