(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCTOBER 16 - The share of the shadow
economy in Ukraine reached 47.2 of country's GDP in 2018, a
study of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology revealed,
the specialized portal Emerging Europe reported.
According to the Institute, the shadow economy amounted to
46.8% of GDP back in 2017 and the construction and retail
sectors currently show the highest figures of undeclared
economic activity. "The study also found that while 40 per cent
of company revenues in the shadow economy remained hidden, close
to a third of employees were not registered and 45 per cent of
salaries went undeclared," Emerging Europe informed.
The results of the study are however contradicting with the
official figures from the Ministry of Economic Development and
Trade, which stated in July that the shadow economy dropped
below 30% of GDP in 2018. (ANSA).
