Transport: EU investing 101 million in Slovenian railway
Maribor-Sentilj section, daily train capacity from 67 to 84

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 AUG - The European Union will invest
101 million euros for the upgrade of a rail section in Slovenia,
between the cities of Maribor and Sentilj, near the border with
Austria in the direction of Graz, the EU has recently announced.
The EU funded works will reduce travel times, increase speed and safety and ensure greater freight-carrying capacity, with the daily train capacity increasing from 67 to 84 trains. The project foresee also the refurbishment of several stations and tunnels. The line is part of of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor.
The upgraded Maribor-Sentilj should be operational by February 2023.
Thanks to the investment, "locals and tourists will enjoy faster, safer travel between Maribor and Sentilj and to the border," and the "EU-funded project will allow for intensified freight transport, which will have positive effects on jobs, trade and growth in the country," said Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc.
