Coronavirus: 337.000+ cases in New Europe,13.950 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 23 - A total of 337.175 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2957 day-on-day), of which 177212 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 22. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 18.

Montenegro did not register any new case already in the past 16 days, according to the latest WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 13.950 (+85), out of which 8174 registered in Germany, 1151 in Romania, 972 in Poland, 633 in Austria, 588 in Ukraine, 476 in Hungary, 306 in Czechia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (177212, +460 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (34303, +932), Ukraine (20148, +442), Poland (20143, +404), Romania (17585, +198), Austria (16332, +57), Serbia (10919, +86), Czechia (8754, +33), Moldova (6704, +151), Hungary (3678, +37), Greece (2853, +3), Bulgaria (2372, +41), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2352, +18), Croatia (2237, +3), North Macedonia (1898, +40), Estonia (1800, +6), Lithuania (1594, +17), Slovakia (1502, +6), Slovenia (1468), Latvia (1025, +9), Kosovo (1003, +14), Albania (969) and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 42152 confirmed cases and 2057 deaths were registered as of May 22.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 3614 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3770 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2500) and Germany (2131), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (276 per million) and Greece (265 per million), according to a count based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (98), followed by Moldova (87), Austria (71) and Romania (59), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 537 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 11 and May 18, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+24,0%), Moldova (+23,0%), Ukraine (+19,0%) and Poland (+15,8%). In Serbia, Greece, Czechia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%.

Between May 4 and May 11, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+36,7%), Ukraine (+26,9%), Bulgaria (21,4%), Moldova (+19,6%), Poland (+16,8%), Romania (+16,7%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13,0%), the lowest in Montenegro (+0,9%), Austria (+1,2%) and Slovenia (+1,3%). Also in Lithuania, Czechia, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Estonia and Kosovo the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
