Kosovo: Biden, 'mutual recognition', criticism in Serbia

In Pristina, thanks to the new US president

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 08 FEB - BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 8 - In a message for the Serbian National Day, the new American president, Joe Biden, hopes to solve the Kosovo issue with the mutual recognition between Belgrade and Pristina, and this is creating growing impatience and open criticism in the Serbian leadership.

President Aleksandar Vucic, the recipient of Biden's message of good wishes for the National Day of February 15 at the weekend, reiterated that Serbia is always ready to continue the dialogue with Pristina under the aegis of the EU but firmly excludes any hypothesis of mutual recognition. Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic and the head of the parliamentary commission for Kosovo Milovan Drecun agreed with Vucic. Drecun defined the words of Biden as "irritating and improper". The reactions in Kosovo were utterly different. All the political leaders were quick to congratulate Biden and thank him for his clear stance, in their view, in favor of Serbia's recognition of Kosovo.

Premier Avdullah Hoti, the president of the parliament and interim head of state Vjosa Osmani, opposition leader, and former premier Albin Kurti have also expressed positive comments. (ANSA).
