(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 31 AGO - "If we have learned anything from the coronavirus crisis, it is certainly the importance of European solidarity and cooperation," said Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte today in a video conference at the fifteenth edition of the Strategic Forum in Bled, Slovenia.

Conte participates in the forum's central panel on Europe after Brexit and Covid-19, along with his counterparts from Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, and the Czech Republic. The Bled meeting also sees the participation of the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva.

According to Slovenian President Borut Pahor, who spoke at the Forum opening, the pandemic should not be "an excuse not to talk about the future of the European Union" as "if we cannot change the past, we can change our future together," and seize the opportunities that this crisis made available.

In his speech, Pahor also reiterated the importance of the spirit of European inclusiveness and solidarity as starting points to build a shared vision. Solidarity was also the keyword in the video message from the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, who invited all countries to strengthen the role of sport in the post-coronavirus world's economic and social recovery.
