Poland: more workers to Germany than in the UK

Salaries, distance from home, fear of Brexit among the causes

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 21 NOV - Germany has overtaken the United Kingdom as the preferred destination for Polish emigrants.

According to new data of the Polish national Statistics Office, quoted by the TV station Al Jazeera, there are now 706,000 Polish workers resident in Germany and 695,000 in the United Kingdom, where the number of Polish citizens fall by 98,000 units. The third most popular destination is currently the Netherlands. The reasons that are pushing Poles to prefer to move to Germany than to the UK are related to wages, distance from home, the availability of jobs offers, but also to worries about their residency status after Brexit, said Kamil Wolczyk, a manager of a jobs agency specialized in Polish recruitment, told Al Jazeera.
