(ANSA) - TRIESTE, NOVEMBER 12 - This week Trieste will host,
as part of the pro-ESOF initiatives, an international event
focusing on nuclear power and its potential contribution to the
fight against climate change and the achievement of the global
objectives of decarbonizing the energy sector.
Promoted by the Nuclear and Reason Committee, the event
includes a guided tour of the Krško nuclear power plant on
November,15 and a scientific conference which will take place on
November 16 in the Aula Magna of the A.Volta Technical
Institute. The conference will include two sessions: the current
state of research on nuclear technologies in the sectors of
nuclear fission and fusion and the role of nuclear power in
European decarbonization scenarios, paying particular attention
to issues such as safety, waste management and public perception
of the nuclear option. The key themes will include the design of
a second nuclear reactor in Krsko, presented by the Slovenian
Nuclear Society. The conference will feature speakers from
research centers and technical-scientific institutions from
different countries, including Italy, Slovenia, Croatia,
Austria, Poland, and France. Then a round table will take place,
open to speeches.
The table will be attended (via conference call) by Michael
Shellenberger, from California, founder of Environmental
Progress, who in the past as an environmentalist used to oppose
nuclear power and today is among the most active promoters of
the nuclear option. The Volta Institute will also host an
interactive exhibition on radioactivity and nuclear
technologies. (ANSA).
