Coronavirus: 326.708 cases in New Europe,13.563 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 20 MAG - A total of 326.708 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2625 day-on-day), of which 175210 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 19. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 18.

Montenegro did not register any new case already since 13 days, according to WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 13.563 (+136), out of which 8007 registered in Germany, 1107 in Romania, 936 in Poland, 629 in Austria, 548 in Ukraine, 467 in Hungary, 297 in Czechia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (175210, +513 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (30572, +922), Poland (18885, +356), Ukraine (18876, +260), Romania (17036, +165), Austria (16179, +25), Serbia (10699, +89), Czechia (8586, +111), Moldova (6138, +78), Hungary (3556, +21), Greece (2836, +2), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2303, +14), Bulgaria (2259, +24), Croatia (2228, +2), North Macedonia (1817, +25), Estonia (1784, +10), Lithuania (1547, +6), Slovakia (1495, +1), Slovenia (1466), Latvia (1009, +1), Kosovo (955), Albania (948), and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 41044 confirmed cases and 1973 deaths were registered as of May 19.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 3221 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3735 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2289) and Germany (2107), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (274 per million) and Greece (263 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (96), followed by Moldova (82), Austria (71) and Romania (57), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 529 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 11 and May 18, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+24,0%), Moldova (+23,0%), Ukraine (+19,0%) and Poland (+15,8%). In Serbia, Greece, Czechia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%.

Between May 4 and May 11, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+36,7%), Ukraine (+26,9%), Bulgaria (21,4%), Moldova (+19,6%), Poland (+16,8%), Romania (+16,7%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13,0%), the lowest in Montenegro (+0,9%), Austria (+1,2%) and Slovenia (+1,3%). Also in Lithuania, Czechia, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Estonia and Kosovo the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
