Kosovo: Kurti says 'we don't want new Republika Srpska'

PM against Community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo

01 December, 18:00
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 1 - Kosovan Premier Albin Kurti has stressed that he is against the creation of a Community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo, adding that such a body would constitute a "state of Serbia within Kosovo". "In Belgrade they would like Kosovo not to be a state and for the Community of Serbian municipalities to be a state of Serbia within Kosovo.

Their objective is a destructive one, they don't want anything for the Serbians of Kosovo but they want something against us", said Kurti, speaking to the all-news Balkan broadcaster N1. Due to the "painful experience" in Bosnia-Herzegovina - he added - Pristina will not allow the creation of a Community of Serbian municipalities because it doesn't want Serbia to "relaunch the model" of Republika Srpska (the Serbian-majority entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina). "For the normalization of relations it is necessary to have reciprocal recognition at the center of the accord. If Belgrade says this won't happen it means that they are against the agreement. Pristina will not allow the existence of a Republika Srpska inside Kosovo, and we know very well that this is what Serbia wants", stated Kurti, confirming that the agreement with Belgrade must be concluded, according to him, by next spring.
