Coronavirus: 329.905 cases in New Europe,13.727 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 21 - A total of 329.905 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3197 day-on-day), of which 176007 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 20. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 18.

Montenegro did not register any new case already in the past 14 days, according to the latest WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 13.727 (+164), out of which 8090 registered in Germany, 1126 in Romania, 948 in Poland, 632 in Austria, 564 in Ukraine, 470 in Hungary, 302 in Czechia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (176007, +797 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (31508, +936), Poland (19268, +383), Ukraine (19230, +354), Romania (17191, +155), Austria (16257, +78), Serbia (10733, +34), Czechia (8647, +61), Moldova (6340, +202), Hungary (3598, +42), Greece (2840, +4), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2319, +16), Bulgaria (2292, +339, Croatia (2232, +4), North Macedonia (1839, +22), Estonia (1791, +7), Lithuania (1562, +15), Slovakia (1495), Slovenia (1467, +1), Latvia (1012, +3), Kosovo (989, +34), Albania (964, +16), and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 41362 confirmed cases and 2005 deaths were registered as of May 20.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 3319 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3748 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2364) and Germany (2117), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (274 per million) and Greece (264 per million), according to a count based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (97), followed by Moldova (84), Austria (71) and Romania (58), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 532 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 11 and May 18, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+24,0%), Moldova (+23,0%), Ukraine (+19,0%) and Poland (+15,8%). In Serbia, Greece, Czechia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%.

Between May 4 and May 11, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+36,7%), Ukraine (+26,9%), Bulgaria (21,4%), Moldova (+19,6%), Poland (+16,8%), Romania (+16,7%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13,0%), the lowest in Montenegro (+0,9%), Austria (+1,2%) and Slovenia (+1,3%). Also in Lithuania, Czechia, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Estonia and Kosovo the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
