(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 17 GIU - A total of 408.787 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3004 day-on-day), of which 186839 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, June 16. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region continues to slow down in the region, with the exception in the past week of North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Moldova according to data updated as of June 15. Belarus has registered more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 16.156 (+78), out of which 8800 registered in Germany, 1427 in Romania, 1256 in Poland, 913 in Ukraine 678 in Austria, 565 in Hungary, 417 in Moldova, 330 in Czechia, , 312 in Belarus, 255 in Serbia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (186839, +378 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (54680, +707), Ukraine (32476, +666), Poland (29788, +396), Romania (22165, +166), Austria (17065, +27), Serbia (12367, +57), Moldova (11879, +139) and Czechia (10064, +40). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 52389 confirmed cases and 2500 deaths were registered as of June 16.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 5761 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3923 in Italy, followed by Moldova (3350) and Germany (2247), while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (291 per million) and Slovakia (285 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Moldova has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (118), followed by Germany (106), North Macedonia (93), Austria (76), and Romania (74), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 567 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between June 8 and June 15, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in North Macedonia (+34,0%), Albania (+25,9%), Kosovo (+21,2%) and Moldova (+21,0%). In Serbia, Czechia, Lithuania, Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia the weekly increase of new cases is between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
