EU Council formally adopts sixth package of sanctions
It includes the oil embargo
03 June, 16:48The EU Council formally adopted the sixth package of sanctions.
The package includes the oil embargo with waivers for crude oil arriving via pipelines, the exclusion from the Swift system of four additional Russian banks and the suspension of broadcasting in the EU for three Russian state TVs.
The EU has resolved to prohibit the purchase, import, or transfer of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia within the sixth package of sanctions. Russian oil will be phased out over a six-month period for unrefined oil and an eight-month period for other refined petroleum products. A temporary exception is planned for oil pipeline imports into EU Member States that, due to their geographical location, are reliant on Russian supply and have no viable alternatives.
Bulgaria and Croatia will also benefit from temporary exemptions from imports of crude oil by sea and gas oil in vacuum. (ANSA).
