(ANSA) - UDINE, 01 GIU - "Here we speak Italian, here we
greet Romanly..." is the title of the exhibition featuring the
history and memory of the fascist concentration camps of Gonars
and Visco (Udine) in Italy and Rab in Croatia, set up in the
Velarium of the di Toppo Wassermann Palace in Udine, which is
open on weekdays until June 17. Organized by the Friulian
university, the exhibit aims to "keep alive the past
discrimination memories through displaying artistic expressions
such as photographs and comics."
The exhibition, curated by Nataša Mataušić, Saša Kralj, and
Alice Straniero, is part of the European project "Meeting
Memories: learning from the past to confront dehumanization
today," in which the Friulian university is a partner. The
exhibition includes a historical introduction to fascist camps
and a section featuring the work of the project participants
carried out during some workshops.
"The project aims to raise awareness of the history and memories
of the persecutions of the 1930s and 1940s and enhance an
understanding of the mechanisms of discrimination, which are
also possible in today's societies," explained the coordinators
for the University of Udine, Natka Badurina and Elisa Copetti,
from the Department of Languages and Literatures, Communication,
Education and Society. (ANSA).
