EU19: retail trade falls by 0.6% in July

In the EU28, drop by 0.5%

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, SEPTEMBER 4 - In July, retail trade fell by 0.6% in the eurozone and by 0.5% in the EU28. Eurostat reported. In June, retail trade increased by 1.2% in the eurozone and 1.3% in the EU28. Compared to July 2018, there was an increase in volumes by 2.2% in the eurozone and 2.6% in the EU28.

In the eurozone, this drop compared to the previous month is due to a 1% fall in non-food products and 0.3% in food, alcohol, and tobacco, whereas car fuel remained unchanged. The sharpest declines in retail trade were recorded in Croatia (down 3.3%), Germany (down 2.2%) and Belgium (down 1.4%). The largest increases were recorded in Ireland (up 1.9%), Slovenia (up 1.2%), Bulgaria and Malta (both up 1%). Italy's data is not yet available. (ANSA).
