In Bulgaria lowest hourly labour costs in 2020

But increasing, as in Hungary and Czechia

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 31 - Bulgaria, together with Hungary and Czechia, registered one of the highest increases in Europe in hourly labour costs between 2019 and 2020, but remains the EU country with the lowest average hourly labour costs, show Eurostat data published today.

In 2020, average hourly labour costs in the whole economy, excluding agriculture and public administration. were around €28.5 in the EU and €32.3 in the euro area, Eurostat said. The lowest hourly labour costs were recorded in Bulgaria (€6.5), Romania (€8.1) and Hungary (€9.9), and the highest in Denmark (€45.8), Luxembourg (€42.1) and Belgium (€41.1).

Between 2019 and 2020, hourly labour costs rose by 3.1% in the EU and by 2.9% in the euro area, with Croatia only registering a decrease (-1.0%). The largest increases were observed in Hungary (+7.9%), Bulgaria (+7.8%), Czechia (+7.4%) and Romania (+7.2%), the EU statistical office informed. (ANSA).
