(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCTOBER 21 - At the end of 2018, the
lowest ratio of government debt to GDP among EU member states
was recorded in Estonia (8.4%), Eurostat said today.
Low levels of debt were registered also in Luxembourg
(21.0%), Bulgaria (22.3%), Czechia (32.6%), Lithuania (34.1%)
and Denmark (34.2%), while the highest were recorded in in
Greece (181.2%), Italy (134.8%) and Portugal (122.2%).
Relative low levels of government debt are recorded in all EU
countries in Central- and Eastern Europe. At the end of 2018,
the government debt to GDP ratio was 74.8% in Croatia (78% in
2017), 36.4% in Latvia (38.6% in 2017), 70.2% in Hungary (72.9%
in 2017), 48.9% in Poland (50.6% in 2017), 35% in Romania (35.1%
in 2017), 70.4% in Slovenia (74.1% in 2017) and 49.4% in
Slovakia (51.3% in 2017).
In the euro area the government debt to GDP ratio declined
from 87.8% at the end of 2017 to 85.9% at the end of 2018, and
in the EU28 from 82.1% to 80.4, Eurostat said. (ANSA).
