(ANSA-AFP) - BELGRADE, JAN 24 - European Commission President
Ursula von der Leyen and the prime ministers of Croatia and the
Netherlands on Tuesday urged Bosnia's leaders to accelerate
reforms needed to approve talks to become European Union
members. The three leaders visited the Balkan country ahead of
the next meeting of the European Council on March 21-22 in
Brussels, the last chance they said to open membership
negotiations before June's European elections. "We have seen
some progress, we have seen a real commitment to the accession
goal," Von der Leyen said after meeting Bosnian Prime Minister
Borjana Kristo and several members of her cabinet. "You have
shown that you can deliver if your country moves forward as
one," Von der Leyen said, citing the recent approval of measures
reinforcing the rule of law. Bosnia is in the midst of a
political crisis because of secessionist threats from Bosnian
Serbs, which has slowed the reforms demanded by Brussels.
