Coronavirus: 342.000+ cases in New Europe,14.150 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 25 - A total of 342.065 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2696 day-on-day), of which 178281 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 24. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 18. Montenegro did not register any new case already in the past 18 days, according to the latest WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 14.150 (+98), out of which 8274 registered in Germany, 1170 in Romania, 993 in Poland, 639 in Austria, 617 in Ukraine, 486 in Hungary, 314 in Czechia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (178281, +431 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (35244, +941), Ukraine (20986, +406), Poland (20391, +312), Romania (17857, +145), Austria (16407, +46), Serbia (11092, +68), Czechia (8890, +77), Moldova (6994, +147), Hungary (3741, +28), Greece (2876, +3), Bulgaria (2408), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2371), Croatia (2243), North Macedonia (1941, +20), Estonia (1821, +14), Lithuania (1616, +12), Slovakia (1504, +1), Slovenia (1478), Latvia (1046, +16), Kosovo (1025, +21), Albania (989, +8) and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 42774 confirmed cases and 2084 deaths were registered as of May 24.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 3713 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3792 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2608) and Germany (2144), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (276 per million) and Greece (267 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (99), followed by Moldova (93), Austria (72) and Romania (60), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 541 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 11 and May 18, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+24,0%), Moldova (+23,0%), Ukraine (+19,0%) and Poland (+15,8%). In Serbia, Greece, Czechia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%.

Between May 4 and May 11, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+36,7%), Ukraine (+26,9%), Bulgaria (21,4%), Moldova (+19,6%), Poland (+16,8%), Romania (+16,7%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13,0%), the lowest in Montenegro (+0,9%), Austria (+1,2%) and Slovenia (+1,3%). Also in Lithuania, Czechia, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Estonia and Kosovo the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
