Belarus: Lukashenko,we will respond to US tanks in Lithuania

'An unprecedented act. But we are a peaceful country'

(ANSA) - MOSCOW, OCTOBER 28 - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said that he considers the deployment of US tanks in Lithuania, near the Belarusian border, as an 'unprecedented act'. "We have never seen foreign troops deployed so clearly near our borders before. Nothing like this has ever happened. I think this is the first such action in Lithuania. It sets a precedent," Lukashenko said, cited by the state-run news agency BelTA, then taken by Interfax. Today a report was presented to Lukashenko on the political-military situation, concerning the risks, the threats and the challenges for Belarus and the potential countermeasures. "Of course we have to respond to these demonstrations even if spurs clinking must be avoided: we are a peaceful country and we do not want to fight," Lukashenko said.
