(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 13 NOV - TRIESTE, NOVEMBER 13 - Austria is moving toward enforcing total lockdown. The official announcement is expected tomorrow afternoon during Chancellor Sebastian Kurz's press conference. Almost two weeks after the so-called "soft lockdown," even with an evening curfew, infections continue to rise, with over 9,000 new cases a day.

According to the daily newspaper Der Standard, all non-essential shops' closure is in sight, whereas the government is currently still considering closing kindergartens and primary schools.

Tomorrow Kurz will probably announce all schools' closure, including kindergartens and elementary schools, some media anticipated. Instead, assistance will be guaranteed for pupils of parents who carry out essential jobs, just like it had already happened during the first Covid wave in the spring. The total lockdown, for now, would be expected until December 8.

Middle and high schools have already returned to remote learning. (ANSA).
