Coronavirus: more than 140,000 cases in New Europe, 2610 die

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, APRIL 8 APR - A total of 140,562 confirmed cases of coronavirus (+5925 day-on-day), 99225 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece as April 7, show official data of national authorities collected by the World Health Organization (WHO). The total number of fatalities in the region is 2610 (+285), out of which 1607 registered in Germany, 220 in Austria, 157 in Romania, 107 in Poland.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (99225, +3834 in the last 24 hours), followed by Austria (12297, +314), Czech Republic (4822, +235), Poland (4413, +311), Romania (4057, +192), Serbia (2200, +292), Greece (1755, +20), Ukraine (1462, +143), Croatia (1222, +40), Estonia (1108, +11), Slovenia (1021, +24), Moldova (965, +101), Lithuania (843, +32), Hungary (817, +73), Belarus (700, +138), Bosnia-Herzegovina (695, +33), North Macedonia (570, +15), Bulgaria (549, +18), Latvia (542, +9), Slovakia (534, +49), Albania (377), Montenegro (223, +20) and Kosovo (165, +20).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 11079 confirmed cases and 359 deaths were registered until April 7. Austria has registered 1381 cases of COVID-19 per million, compared to 2191 in Italy, followed by Germany (1193), Estonia (834), Slovenia (493), according to a tally based on WHO data.

The tally shows that, in the region, Austria has also registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (24.7), followed by Germany (19.3) and Slovenia (14.5). Italy has recorded 273.2 deaths per million inhabitants as of yesterday. Between March 30 and April 5, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+368%), Moldova (+186%), Ukraine (+160%), Montenegro (+132%) and Serbia (+119%).
