Sassoli visiting Skopje, 'please stay on the European path'

President of EU parliament in N. Macedonia on 4-5 November

30 October, 19:36
(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, OCTOBER 30 - "Visiting North Macedonia, and then Albania, is very important to me in the present moment", said the president of the European Parliament David Sassoli a few days ahead of his first official trip outside the European Union to be held in North Macedonia.

The visit to Skopje will take place on Monday and Tuesday 4-5 November. A trip to Tirana (Albania) is scheduled for 2-3 December.

"We know that the population of both countries was deeply disappointed since the Council failed to reach an agreement on the opening of accession negotiations, due to the veto by some member states - added Sassoli added -. We understand and share this disappointment." Sassoli underlined that "Albania and North Macedonia completed the reforms we had requested and now they deserve to be rewarded for the extraordinary efforts they made.

I would, therefore, like to address the citizens and especially the younger generations: do not give up hope, please remain on the European path. The European Parliament supports you".
