(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 16 - Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov said he was worried about a further postponement of the EU's decision on the beginning of his country's accession negotiations, underlining that this would strengthen the nationalist and populist forces, and those who are and skeptical about the European project. The government in Skopje is expecting that the European Council will give the green light to the accession negotiations on October 15, when Brussels will have to decide upon the opening of the negotiation with Albania.

"If we do not have a clear prospect, we will be weaker, whereas the EU skeptics, the nationalist forces, the populists will be stronger, and this will benefit those who doubt the European project," said Dimitrov cited by the Serbian media. However, the minister was optimistic about the green light to the beginning of the accession negotiations, underlining the remarkable progress made by North Macedonia on the path towards democratization, and the important agreements made with Greece and Bulgaria.
