(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUGUST 31 - Deputy Assistant Secretary at US Department of State - Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer has been appointed as US Special Representative for the Balkans. Serbian media reported, citing sources in the State Department in Washington.

Palmer will participate in the coming days at the traditional Bled Strategic Forum, in Slovenia, and at meetings in Brussels, Vienna and Podgorica. Matthew Palmer is a career diplomat expert in Balkan issues and has already carried out several missions in the region. According to Serbia's foreign minister Ivica Dacic, his appointment by Mike Pompeo is a signal of the American administration's willingness to favor the resumption of negotiations on Kosovo between Belgrade and Pristina. Anyway, Dacic is convinced that talks will continue with the mediation of the EU. This appointment makes clear that the US is committed to consolidating peace and stability in the entire Balkan region. (ANSA).
