(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 1 - The annual Verona street game festival Tocatì was on Thursday added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage, ANSA sources said.
    The UN cultural body said "Tocatì, a shared programme for the safeguarding of traditional games and sports, is considered an exemplary practice for safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage".
    The seventeenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is beinghosted by the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat (Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses) from 28 November to 3 December 2022.
    In its citation, UNESCO complimented Italy, the leading country for number of bids, for fostering over the years a shared pathway between communities including the association for ancient games, the community of Verona, the Veneto regional government, and similar communities in Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus and France.
    Tocatì, in fact, "each year sees young people from all these countries recreating and reliving age-old and traditional street games, in order to keep their memory alive." UNESCO also recognized the training of the famed Lipizzani horses of the Swiss riding school in Vienna. Some of the horses are reared in Italy.
    Some 404 of them are in Italy's pedigree roster, and one bloodline is Puglian. (ANSA).
