Three out of 24 finalists are in the
running for the EU Organic Awards 2024, the EU prizes dedicated
to organic farming, are from Italy.
The winners will be announced on 23 September.
There are eight categories and the 24 finalists come from 11 EU
countries.
The winners of the eight awards will be revealed during an
official ceremony in Brussels organised to celebrate the
European Organic Day (EU Organic Day). Among the three Italian
finalists, Gianpaolo Mancini from Salerno is in the running for
the category 'best organic farmer (male)'; the Distretto del
Cibo Monregalese in Cuneo, Piedmont, is competing as best
organic 'bio-district'; while Gino Girolomoni Cooperativa
Agricola dell'Isola del Piano (Marche) is running as best small
and medium-sized organic food processing company.
The other five categories are: best female organic farmer, best
organic region, best organic city, best organic food retailer
and best organic restaurant/catering service.
The EU's organically farmed area, the European Commission
recalls in a note, had grown to 17 million hectares, or 10.5% of
the total byu 2022.
The European Green Deal's target is to have at least 25% of the
EU's agricultural land devoted to organic farming by 2030.
