Mattia Sorbi, an Italian freelance journalist, has been injured in war-ravaged Ukraine, ANSA sources said on Thursday.
The foreign ministry told ANSA that it was "in constant contact" with the reporter, who was hurt in the area of Kherson.
"He is being treated. We have positive news about his state of health," the ministry said "We are working to bring him back safely to Italy as soon as possible".
Local sources said the reporter was being treated in a hospital under Russian control.
Tass quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying that the Russian military was providing assistance to Sorbi and that he was injured by a Ukrainian mine that killed the driver of he vehicle he was in.
It described the explosion as "provocation by the Kyiv intelligence service to accuse Russia".
Later on Thursday, Sorbi wrote on Facebook that he was safe and well, adding that communication problems had prevented him from posting online.
