Pope well, awake and alert says surgeon

The surgeon who operated on Pope Francis to fix an abdominal hernia Wednesday said after the successful operation that the pontiff was well, awake and alert.
    "The holy father is well, awake and alert," said surgeon Sergio Alfieri, who headed the team that intervened to resolve an abdominal laparocele or ulcerated hernia.
    "He has already told me his first one-liner," the surgeon added, saying Francis was in good spirits.
