Rome's Catholic diocese on Monday
launched a 'suspended bill' campaign to collect funds towards
helping households with their energy bills along the lines of
the successful 'suspended coffee' for the poor across Italy.
The cost of living crisis initiative is set to mark the World
Day of the Poor on November 3, said Cardinal Vicar Angelo De
Donatis said in his call to all Roman parish priests for "an
extraordinary collection of offerings" to help meet soaring gas
and eletricity bills.
"Today and in the next few months in Rome, as in the rest of the
country, a growing number of people and families are seeing
their ability to pay their gas and electricity fall short," said
the cardinal, calling for "a free offering for a suspended
bill".
