For the first time in the history of
the Catholic Church two women members have been chosen to serve
on the committee that elects bishops, Pope Francis said
Wednesday.
He remarked that their appointment followed the nomination of a
woman to be deputy head of the Vatican governatorate, the body
that runs the Roman Curia.
He said they would be lay embers of the Church and would be
heads of departments such as education and culture.
"In this way we are opening things up a little" to women in
senior roles in the Curia, Francis told Reuters.
