It is a bigger scandal to cover
up sex abuse cases than to perpetrate abuse itself, the Italian
Bishops Conference (CEI) said Monday.
"The biggest scandal is to cover up the truth," CEI President
Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti told TV200 in an interview.
Speaking on the eve of a CEI meeting starting Monday on
clerical paedophilia, Bassetti said "there have always been
scandals in the Church and today they have become manifest
through media that once were not so efficient in their
crudeness.
"Terrible things have happened, and we express our
condemnation of them just as the Lord would express His".
