The family, friends and fans of Totò
Schillaci were in a state of apprehension on Monday after the
former Inter, Juventus and Italy striker was admitted to
Palermo's Civico hospital in a serious condition at the weekend.
The 59-year-old, one of the heroes of the national team's 'magic
nights' at the Italia '90 World Cup, has been in treatment for
several years for colon cancer.
His family said via one of his social media profiles that his
condition was stable and that he was being monitored night and
day by doctors.
The news of Schillaci's condition triggering an outpouring of
affection on social media, with fans publishing posts with the
hashtag #forzatotò.
