(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 9 - Italian sport is mourning the loss of
Alpine skier Elena Fanchini, who died at her home in the
province of Brescia at the age of 37 on Wednesday after a long
battle with cancer.
Fanchini won the silver medal in the downhill at the Bormio
world championships in 2005.
She also notched four World Cup podiums in her career, including
two victories, the first in 2006 and the last in 2014.
She represented Italy at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics
but missed out on Pyeongchang in 2018 after being diagnosed with
cancer the year before.
Her younger sisters Nadia and Sabrina are also Alpine skiers
who have raced for Italy. (ANSA).
