Serie A is set to take action to cut
the amount of electricity used at stadiums so that Italian
soccer does its bit to help out with the energy crisis, ANSA has
learned.
The drive will start with this weekend's matches with reductions
in the amount of time stadiums are lit up.
"It's just a first step," said Lega Serie A President Lorenzo
Casini.
"We have to be a good example".
For night matches, Serie A is set to impose a maximum limit of
four hours of stadium lighting per match.
In matches taking place during the day, between 12:30 and 18:00,
the systems that aid referees, such as the VAR and goal-line
technology systems, will be turned on 60 minutes before kickoff,
rather than 90 minutes before, with a 25% decrease on lighting.
Serie A is also looking into other ways for boost energy
efficiency, such as the installation of solar panels at soccer
grounds.
