Italy continued their strong start at
the world swimming championships on Monday with Thomas Ceccon
winning the men's 100 metres backstroke and Benedetta Pilato
taking gold in the 100m breaststroke.
To boot, Ceccon set a new world record of 51.6 seconds to beat
the former holder of the record, Ryan Murphy of the United
States, into second place.
Italy already have six medals at the championships, including
four golds, after Giorgio Minisini and Lucrezia Ruggiero won the
mixed duel technical synchronized swimming earlier on Monday and
Nicolo Martinenghi grabbed gold on the men's 100m breaststroke
on Sunday.
