Italian skier Sofia Goggia has said
she still hopes to defend her Olympic downhill title after
suffering a knee injury in a nasty crash in Sunday's Super-G
World Cup race in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The 29-year-old damaged anterior cruciate ligaments in her knee
and she also fractured her fibula.
"I'm sorry. It's not a good to stop at such an important stage
in the season," said Goggia, who has been in stunning form and
won Saturday's downhill to make it four wins out of five in the
discipline this season.
"But I'll start physiotherapy within hours and I'll try to
defend the downhill gold medal.
The Beijing Winter Olympics starts on February 4
Goggia's compatriot Elena Curtoni won Sunday's Super-G.
