Matteo Berrettini has not given up
hope of continuing his challenge at the ATP Finals in Turin
after an abdominal injury forced him to withdraw in tears from
his opening match against Alexander Zverev on Sunday.
"I hadn't felt any pain before that serve in the second set
(when I pulled up)," Berrettini said.
"I'll do tests on Monday. I hope it's just a muscle contracture
and I can get back on court on Tuesday, even if I'm only 60%.
"I don't know who to take it out on.
"Something that I had earned with merit is getting away from me
and there is nothing I can do.
"While I was on court in the first set I experienced the most
beautiful atmosphere of my life.
"That's why I feel bad now".
