AC Milan face a massive challenge to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League after losing their third Group B game 1-0 at Porto on Tuesday.
The seven-time European champions were undone by a second-half goal by Luis Díaz.
Milan, who returned to the Champions League after a seven-year absence this season, have zero points, four fewer than Porto and Atletico Madrid, while Liverpool lead with nine points.
Inter, on the other hand, got their campaign moving with a 3-1 home win over surprise package FC Sheriff of Moldova.
The Serie A champions are third in Group D with four points, two fewer than Real Madrid and Sheriff.
On Wednesday Group F leaders Atalanta take on Manchester United at Old Trafford and Juventus, who are top of Group H with six points, visit Zenit St. Petersburg.
