Tourism: record numbers at 18th Buy Veneto workshop

Councilor Caner highlights quality

Venice ANSAcom

The 18th edition of 'Buy Veneto', the international tourism workshop of Veneto, has
attracted a record 262 companies from the region and 200 international buyers from 56 foreign markets. Italy's largest event on territorial marketing opened Monday at the Hotel Laguna
Palace in Mestre. In includes 10 new initiatives compared to last year, organizers said.
Regional Tourism Councilor Federico Caner said that over the past few years Buy Veneto has grown "in numbers, but especially in terms of quality, because we tried to listen to operators and
understand what they were asking for".

Efforts were made to involve more operators from the United States, Russia and China, who were represented by 19, 17 and 13 buyers respectively.
Such efforts were made without forgetting that 70 percent of tourists in the Veneto are foreign and that the region's main market remains Europe, starting with Germany, which was represented by 19 buyers at the workshop.
Veneto has also responded to a request by operators to focus on specific themes. In future, said Caner, "we will try to have Buy Veneto" initiatives, dedicated to specific areas "like we did this year
with the mountains".

The councilor said that in 2020 the first initiative will focus on beaches: the 'Buy Alto Adriatico' will debut in mid-March with Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia presenting a single offer to buyers.
"Together we will be stronger, we will give an image of union, we will spend less money and cover international markets better", he noted.

Buy Veneto has also provided an occasion to examine the last five years, during which the Veneto region was able to reach the objective of having a strategic plan for tourism, focusing on co-financing through European funds.
"Each million we spent enabled us to take six" more home, said Caner. He added that the whole process "ended with the commercialization of products, after having created an mportant advertisement and communication campaign, which could count on funds worth 1.5 million" euros, which have already been "pledged, and will have almost another million next year".

Veneto Governor Luca Zaia said the region is "today present on catalogues worldwide, when only 10 years ago it was unknown to retailers".
The year "2018 went well, and 2019 should also register a slight increase". "However, tourism is changing, with shorter and more frequent holidays", with more people choosing not to stay at an hotel, "with an emotional tourism which, for me, represents the future", he said.
"For this reason, we will always need to base our offer on what is happening in the world".
