The government has closed 11
infringement proceedings with the EU since it took office in
October following its September 25 election victory, European
Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto said Thursday.
At the time the Giorgia Meloni-led rightwing government took
office, the number of pending infringement procedures was 83,
compared to a European average of 73. Since then, 11 have been
closed, while another 10 have been opened in relation to old
non-compliance situations, according to a note issued by the
Ministry of European Affairs presenting the contents of the
anti-infringement decree approved Wednesday by the Italian
Cabinet and proposed by Minister Fitto.
Today, therefore, there are 82 infringement procedures pending
against Italy, compared to a European average of 66.
