Three-time ex-premier and media
magnate Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party
is a solid pillar of the centre-right, mostly Christian Democrat
European People's Party (EPP) in Italy, EPP chief Manfred Weber
said at an EPP symposium on the importance of Christian values
in Rome Thursday.
Weber thanked FI and EPP No. 2 Antonio Tajani, the Italian
foreign minister and deputy premier, for his service in the EPP,
in government and in FI's leadership and said "Forza Italia is
the solid pillar we have in Italy.
"It is unthinkable to think of Europe without the Christian
Democrats".
Weber was speaking at an EPP Rome event titled 'With Christian
values at the centre: the ruling class for the Europe of today
and tomorrow".
