The issue of measures implemented by Italy under the European RepowerEU programme to save energy, produce clean energy and diversify energy supplies is "clearly central", European Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto told ANSA after meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Brussels on Monday.
The meeting lasted around 20 minutes.
Fitto was in the Belgian capital for a series of technical meeting, which he said had been "good".
Earlier on Monday a European Commission EC) spokesperson said Italy had still not submitted its proposal for including RePowerEU measures in its post-Covid National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
Italy has been allocated 2.7 billion euros under the REPowerEU plan approved by the EU in February 2023 to reduce dependency on Russian fossil fuel imports through investment and reforms related to the energy transition and decarbonisation.
However, in order to access the funds it must present a detailed proposal of how it intends to spend them as an additional chapter to its NRRP.
The proposal must involve "new measures and new investments" rather than a transfer of resources, the EC spokesperson said.
