Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on
Friday told his Ukrainian counterpart that Italy would not leave
Kyiv on its own in the fight against the Russian invasion of his
country.
"We will not leave you alone in the face of cowardly
aggression," Crosetto told Ukrainian colleague Oleksii Reznikov,
on the sidelines of the meeting of the Contact Group for the
Defence of Ukraine being held in Ramstein, Germany.
"We are and will remain at the side of the Ukrainian people in
defence of democracy and freedom".
Crosetto also said he had met with NATO Secretary-General Jens
Stoltenberg at the contact group meeting and assured the
Atlantic Alliance head that Italy will continue to play its part
in the effort to help Ukraine fend off the Russian aggressor.
"During the meeting of the Contact Group for the Defence of
Ukraine I met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with
whom we discussed future strategies and the international
geostrategic context.
"I reiterated to Stoltenberg that Italy, as one of the leading
players in the Atlantic Alliance, will continue to support
Ukraine and its people.
"We will continue to do our part".
