(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - Some 114 refugees will travel from Libya to Italy Wednesday and be received by the national reception system, the Sant'Egidio Catholic lay peacemaking community, and Evangelical Churches, the interior ministry said Tuesday.
The refugees will arrive at the airport of Rome Fiumicino, thanks to an evacuation operation.
Originally from Syria and some African countries, including Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo, 101 will be hosted in the national reception system and the other 13 by Sant'Egidio, by the Italian Federation of Evangelical Churches and by the Waldensian Church, the ministry said.
The ministry explained that this arrival comes under the first protocol for refugees and asylum seekers from Libya, signed by the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, UNHCR, the Community of Sant'Egidio, the Federation of Evangelical Churches and the Waldensian Council, for a total of 500 people welcomed into Italy, 300 by the State and 200 by the various associations.
