Gianni Rosa, a member of Giorgia
Meloni's Brothers of Italy (FdI) party who was elected to the
Senate in last month's general election, and Basilicata Governor
Vito Bardi have been put under investigation in relation to a
probe into the southern region's health system.
Rosa, who was Basilicata environment chief from the spring of
2019 until early this year, and Bardi are among several people
being probed for alleged abuse of office over what prosecutors
described as a "criminal design" to have the director general of
Potenza's San Carlo hospital removed from the post.
The fact that Rosa and Bardi are under investigation does
necessarily mean they will face charges.
"Yes, we go forward," Bardi replied when asked if he intended to
stay in his job after being put under investigation.
Investigators are also looking into alleged corruption regarding
the construction of a new hospital in the town of Lagonegro and
Francesco Piro, the leader of the Forza Italia (Fi) caucus in
the Basilicata regional assembly, was arrested on Friday.
