Italy has suffered from "delays" in
fighting political disinformation and interference by foreign
actors, parliamentary intelligence oversight body COPASIR said
Friday.
There has been, said COPASIR chair Adolfo Urso on its latest
report to parliament, a "substantive weakness in interventions
to combat disinformation and the various forms of interference
(in Italian political life)".
He said this showed a "clear deficit and delay by our country
with regard to commitments, instruments, strategies and measures
which have for some time been operational in a major way in the
international context".
In its report, COPASIR called for a "greater commitment by our
country - by all subjects and authorities which are variously
implicated - in this field, also not excluding possible
interventions" in the legislative sphere.
