League leader Matteo
Salvini told Premier Giuseppe Conte Tuesday that a court will
decide whose version is true regarding what happened in relation
to migrants who were held on a coast guard ship last year.
Salvini could be sent to trial for his conduct when he was
interior minister for failing to give the ok for more than 100
rescued migrants to disembark from the Gregoretti Coast Guard
ship for several days during a long standoff in July.
The Senate's immunity panel on Monday gave the OK for the
Catania court of ministers' request to parliament to proceed
against Salvini for allegedly abusing his power to be granted
after the League voted in favour of that.
The floor of the Upper House needs to ratify that decision on
February 17.
On Tuesday Conte said he was not involved in the specific
decision of whether to allow the migrants to disembark.
However, Salvini, who pulled the plug on Conte's first
government in August prompting the creation of a new ruling
majority, said the decision was made by the whole government.
"We'll talk about it in court," Salvini told ANSA when asked
about Conte's comment.
