Salerno prosecutors have opened a
probe into a banner against Deputy Premier and Interior Minister
Matteo Salvini displayed on May 7 when he was in Campania for
rallies for his anti-migrant Euroskeptic League party, sources
said.
The probe was opened after a report by DIGOS security police
into alleged election disruption.
The trend to greet Salvini with protest banners, meanwhile,
gathered pace this week after firefighters took one down near
Bergamo this week that told the minister he was not welcome.
That move sparked freedom of expression concerns.
Protesters including Salvatore Daniele, brother of the late
Neapolitan singer-songwriter Pino Daniele, hung banners on
Thursday protesting against visits to Naples and Potenza by
Salvini.
One of the banners read: "Take these down too".
